GODrec continues with yet legendary Differenz/Wiederholung cycle
of Bernhard Lang, this time with a piece considered by many
as defining work not only in Lang's opus, but in the whole series.
Differenz/Wiederholung 2 (DW 2) brought worldwide recognition
for Lang and established him as one
of the most interesting and prolific composer of our time.
DW 2 is multimedia piece for amplified ensemble, three voices and video installation.
While the music is filled with rocking and rolling anti-grooving sound slaps,
("scored free jazz") and crippled repetitions,
three vocalist (including rap) present texts from Gilles Deleuze,
William Burroughs and Christian Loidl,
commenting usual repetitive human habits and it's nonsense.
If Captain Beefheart's Trout Mask Replica is a milestone of avant-rock,
then Differenz/Wiederholung 2 is the same for contemporary music -
ultimate 21st century agenda of repetitions that are soon going to be broken...
"The head is the organ of exchange
but the heart is the amorous organ of repetition."
Gilles Deleuze
